About Surrender To Hope

Dana was born and raised on Vancouver Island. She has a Bachelor in Child and Youth Care and extensive experience in children, youth and family counselling. Personal and professional experiences led her to complete a Master of Arts in Addiction Counselling at Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation School of Addiction Studies. She has been mentored by and worked alongside the experts in Addiction Treatment. She has worked in residential and outpatient treatment settings in Minnesota and on Vancouver Island. She is trained in trauma informed care, expressive therapies, an expert in 12 step facilitation, and integrates behavioural therapies into work.

Unlike other talk therapists, Dana uses psychoeducation and skill building techniques to increase her clients capacity to mange the stressors in everyday life. She is a person who values life long learning which has led her to complete a second Masters in Leadership with a health specialization.

Dana's experience and education has led her to utilize many different techniques to support people struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma responses, addiction disorders, as well as provide supportive parent coaching.



Individual Counselling

Individual counselling is confidential one on one therapy. Dana utilizes many different styles of counselling, including motivational interviewing, person centred care, expressive therapies, pyschoeducation and many other styles to support her clients growth, insight into issues, and to develop healthy skills to manage life's challenges.

Couple/Partner and Family Counselling

Mental Health issues and addiction effect all parts of a family system. Sometimes counselling is required to create stability and an open, safe atmosphere. Dana has extensive experience and training in couple and family counselling. She supports all members of a family unit to have a voice and supports a regalement that will allow stability to be maintained.

Group Therapy

Dana is an expert group facilitator. Her background in child, youth and family work supported her to develop workshops and a variety of groups including anxiety reduction for teens and social skill development groups for children and youth. Dana has developed and implemented many workshops and groups to support addiction recovery and currently partners with Dakova Health to facilitate their Intensive Outpatient Addiction Treatment.
